• Services delivered in store: This Boots Opticians store provides a broad range of NHS and private optical services, supported by advanced clinical technology including Optomap. The practice benefits from 3 testing rooms and double testing clinics throughout much of the week, creating a busy and engaging environment serving a diverse patient demographic.

• Team structure: You will be joining a well-established and supportive team, working alongside an experienced Resident Optometrist and knowledgeable optical colleagues who are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and supporting professional growth.

What you’ll be doing
As a qualified Contact Lens Optician, you will be providing a high level of customer care and expert advice to make a real difference to our customers and keep them coming back. You will work in store across our clinics and the wider store to support the day to day operations, reporting to the Store Manager/Hub Manager.

Key responsibilities
  • Using your passion for delivering patient care you'll work with colleagues to deliver a positive customer journey.
  •  Building longstanding relationships – not only with colleagues and customers but with healthcare professionals in the local community and explore the opportunities for delivering enhanced services 
  • Using your up to date knowledge of Contact Lens technology and spectacle dispensing to train and develop the wider optical team. 
  • Validating complex prescriptions and vulnerable groups and providing expert knowledge for patients with more specialist requirements. 
  • Opportunity to supervise a Student Contact Lens Optician/Student Dispensing Optician

  • Full GOC registration
  • Qualified Contact Lens Optician
  • Passion for patient care

Optometrists at Boots are required to have obtained a BSc (hons) degree in optometry, be registered with the GOC, have completed a one year pre-registration work placement, passed the OSCE exams and be registered with relevant NHS body.
A Dispensing Optician at Boots is responsible for dispensing and fitting spectacles and other optical aids, working from prescriptions provided by optometrists and ophthalmologists. They also support customers by helping them choose suitable frames, lenses, and other eye-wear solutions, ensuring they achieve the Best Vision Possible.
Yes, we have a variety of shift options available within our practices.
To become a qualified Optician, you would need to complete an integrated Masters degree which must include 48 weeks of patient-facing experience to meet the General Optical Council training requirements. (This is a four years course in England & Wales and five years in Scotland). The College provides 44 weeks of the required clinical placement experience for student optometrists, as part of most universities' Masters in Optometry
