We're looking for professional and caring Trainee Pharmacists with a true desire to help us be brilliant with Boots.

As a Trainee Pharmacist you’ll receive expert training that will nurture your clinical and pharmacy practice knowledge, whilst fostering professional leadership behaviours. Together we’ll continue to be the trusted and much-loved community pharmacy we’ve been for more than 175 years.

Experience a community placement providing clinical checking and management of common clinical conditions, all aligned to the GPhC/PSNI syllabus to set you up for success. Our training year consists of a mixture of clinical study, calculation support and registration assessment days, as well as time focusing on pharmacy and consultation skills.

In addition, eligible trainees will spend time with one of our external partners, whether that be in GP or hospital to expose you to the prescribing element of your training year. The training aids you in becoming a novice prescriber and leads you to your independent prescriber qualification giving you the best possible start as a Pharmacist with Boots.

Each Trainee Pharmacist position we offer is supported by a dedicated line manager, supervisor as well as our Healthcare Academy Trainers and where applicable personalised support from a Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP) for the prescribing elements.

Once qualified you can continue your pharmacist journey with our unique to Boots Newly Qualified Programme. The programme helps to bridge the gap between working as a Trainee Pharmacist and working as a Newly Qualified Pharmacist. It is a blended learning programme which includes study days, self-directed learning activities and the opportunity to compile a portfolio of evidence. For those coming through on the Independent Prescriber route you will also be supported as a novice prescriber.

The programme is aligned to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) framework which provides you with a clear structure to guide and focus your learning during your journey. All of this is hosted on our bespoke learning portal, and you will be supported by your Healthcare Academy Trainer throughout.

We're looking for professional and caring Trainee Pharmacists with a true desire to help us be brilliant with Boots.

Studying towards a Pharmacy degree, your training will have helped you understand the importance of showing empathy and care, even when you’re feeling under pressure. Seen by others as a reliable team player, you’ll be willing to work hard alongside your colleagues, showing that you’re an innovative and forward thinking pharmacy expert who’s flexible and open to change.

Your learning and development

You’ll be supported every step of the way by a dedicated Supervisor as well as your Store Manager and Healthcare Academy Trainers. All of your learning can be accessed online, and you can talk with your Foundation Training Year peers and access tools via an app. You’ll also be invited to monthly study days.

England

Wales

All placements in Wales are multi-sector and will incorporate two 6-month rotations across community pharmacy, hospital and Primary Care settings. If you are looking to secure a placement with Boots in Wales, you will need to apply through Oriel. Applications for FTY 2027-28 are now open until 3rd July. Preferencing will open 29th July until 22nd October 2026. Situational Judgement Tests are scheduled to take place between 21st September and 1st October 2026 at a Pearson Vue centre. Scotland

If you are looking to secure a placement with Boots in Scotland, please apply through Oriel and preference Boots as your employer of choice in your application. Applications for FTY 2027-28 are now open until 3rd July. Preferencing will open 29th July until 22nd October 2026. Northern Ireland

All placements in Northern Ireland are multi-sector and will incorporate two 6-month rotations across community pharmacy and hospital. If you are looking to secure a placement with Boots in Northern Ireland, you will need to apply via NICPLD. Applications are now open for FTY 2027-28. Mini multiple interviews will commence in September 2026.

Your Support System: Healthcare Academy Trainers

Our Healthcare Academy Trainers (HATs) are uniquely positioned to support you by delivering our Trainee Pharmacist programme and guiding you to become a confident and competent Pharmacist. They also provide coaching and a range of training including Gateway to Pharmacy services; supporting our colleague’s confidence in providing safe and effective patient-centred pharmacy services.

Your Support System: Store Leaders

Your Store/Line Manager will help you with the development of your leadership behaviours and support you with all your general queries. In addition, your Area Manager is there to discuss your continued development and future with Boots.

Your Support System: Supervisors

Your Designated Supervisor will be your go to guide in the pharmacy, helping you learn the everyday tasks that will support you in becoming the best Pharmacist you can be.

The Designated Prescribing Practitioner will support you with the prescribing elements of our programme and will encourage confident prescribing practices. Your Designated Prescribing Practitioner may be in a GP or hospital setting or in one of our Boots stores.

We recommend selecting a minimum of 35 locations when the Oriel applications open for 2025. There is no limit on the number of places you can choose in Oriel, so you should select as many as possible to increase your chances of securing a Trainee Pharmacist position.

We typically offer the vast majority of our Trainee Pharmacist’s a position with us once they have successfully passed their registration exam.
