This is a unique opportunity to join a successful multi-store partnership, supporting a network of six practices across the hub. Working alongside experienced Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians and retail teams, you'll play a key leadership role, helping to drive clinical excellence, colleague development and commercial success. Beyond delivering exceptional patient care, you'll have the opportunity to mentor and support trainee Dispensing Opticians, facilitate training sessions, share product knowledge and contribute to the ongoing development of the wider team. With a varied role across multiple locations and a strong focus on professional growth, this position is ideal for a Dispensing Optician looking to make a broader impact within a supportive and collaborative environment.
As a Mobile Dispensing Optician, you will work across different stores within a defined geographical area to support our stores with cover when people are out of the business.

About the role

Our Mobile Dispensing Opticians play a key role in the area at providing crucial clinical support in stores for regulated dispensing. You will work very closely with a Mobile Optometrist and provide a customer experience where there is a seamless journey for the patient from chair to dispense. You will also:
  • Role model, lead and deliver exceptional care, supporting patients and customers to make appropriate choices regarding optical and healthcare products and services
  • Work flexibly across the opticians area according to business need, continually developing your knowledge so that you can be at your best for patients and customers
  • Provide expert knowledge for patients with more specialist requirements
  • Deliver complete healthcare solutions for our patients and customers and coach other opticians team members to do the same
  • Work with the Boots Healthcare teams to give a one health solution
  • Supervise the development, education and training of colleagues and support and mentor students (including Student Dispensing Opticians)
  • Comply with the standards of practice and the current Boots Opticians clinical policies and standard operating procedures
  • Support the opticians team to deliver an efficient model day and other operational processes to ensure that the opticians business trades legally and safely
  • Get Involved in regular store leadership team meetings to ensure high clinical standards are maintained to support patient safety
  • Actively embraces and advocate the digital agenda and introduce customers to these tools where appropriate through great conversations

What you’ll need to have
These are the essential skills or experience needed to succeed in this role.
  • Registered with the General Optical Council (GOC)
  • Optical experience and expertise
  • Great at building relationships. You will be working very closely with a range of stakeholders including store and area leaders, peers, customers and external local professionals
  • High clinical standards
  • A role model working to lead and deliver our Healthcare Ambition, to be the first choice for patients for their dispensing needs
  • Motivated to own your learning and development, completing all educational training CET as part of the GOC requirement
  • Willing and able to travel to different stores in the region

Optometrists at Boots are required to have obtained a BSc (hons) degree in optometry, be registered with the GOC, have completed a one year pre-registration work placement, passed the OSCE exams and be registered with relevant NHS body.
A Dispensing Optician at Boots is responsible for dispensing and fitting spectacles and other optical aids, working from prescriptions provided by optometrists and ophthalmologists. They also support customers by helping them choose suitable frames, lenses, and other eye-wear solutions, ensuring they achieve the Best Vision Possible.
Yes, we have a variety of shift options available within our practices.
To become a qualified Optician, you would need to complete an integrated Masters degree which must include 48 weeks of patient-facing experience to meet the General Optical Council training requirements. (This is a four years course in England & Wales and five years in Scotland). The College provides 44 weeks of the required clinical placement experience for student optometrists, as part of most universities' Masters in Optometry
