What you'll be doing

As a Packaging Technologist in Boots you will work in a busy and cross-functional team to deliver exciting new & innovative packaging solutions. You will help create amazing products by developing design ideas into packaging that delights our customers, manages cost effectively and maintains our sustainability standards. The role uses a mixture of expert packaging technical knowledge, high levels of organisation and a creative eye to work with our suppliers to develop packaging from concept to manufacture.

This permanent role sits at the heart of the Boots Packaging Technology team, reporting to the Packaging Technology Manager within Technical Services.

You'll dive into a broad mix of Boots and Exclusive brands, supporting our Beauty & General Merchandise and Healthcare business units. The team leads exciting packaging development across Cosmetics, Seasonal Gift, and Health & Wellness products.

You'll work with suppliers across Europe and Asia to create and source innovative packaging solutions, all while championing Boots' Quality and Sustainability standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Manages packaging design to optimise cost, quality and technical feasibility

  • Accountable for delivering the packaging, artwork and optimal Brand visual identity activities for our key brands.

  • Uses packaging technical expertise to innovate, optimise, challenge thinking and ensure the best packaging is developed for Boots consumers.

  • Ensures Quality & Sustainability is at the heart of our brands' packaging development

  • Manages packaging design to optimise cost, quality and technical feasibility

  • Carries out detailed technical testing where required to ensure packaging is robust and will survive distribution and consumer use

  • Accountable for quality of data and accuracy for Boots system inputs & processes

  • Conducts all necessary due diligence and is accountable for identifying and effectively managing packaging technical risks

What you'll need to have (our must-haves)

  • Ideally background or education in Packaging Design, Product Design or Print.

  • Proven track record of developing packaging from design concept to market, ideally within FMCG environment

  • Excellent knowledge of key packaging technologies, manufacturing, print processes and artwork.

  • Experience of tooling new pack components

  • Ability to manage risk, priorities and overall timings for complex technical projects

  • Strong attention to organisation, detail and accuracy
