About the role

Welcome to the Boots.com team – an exciting team within Boots UK which is at the heart of our growth plans as more customers look to us for online help, advice and shopping inspiration, as well as of course the best Boots products, prices and offers. As customers are changing, so are we: focusing on really understanding our customers' needs and making the most of our great products and services to optimise the online shopping experience and drive growth.

Role Overview

We're looking for a proactive and strategic Digital Merchandising Assistant Manager to join our e-commerce team. In this role, you'll be helping to lead a team and own key elements of our online customer experience – this will include on-site search, product recommendations, reviews and taxonomy. You'll be instrumental in shaping our digital merchandising roadmap, driving performance against KPIs, and managing a small team to deliver outstanding results.

As part of our exciting transformation project and re-platform initiative, you'll play a critical role helping us evolve our e-commerce platform and customer journey — making it smoother, smarter, and more engaging.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team responsible for delivering and optimising on-site search, product recommendations, customer reviews, and taxonomy.

  • Develop and execute a clear merchandising strategy that aligns with wider business goals and drives KPIs such as conversion, average order value, and customer engagement.

  • Own the roadmap for digital merchandising improvements, prioritising initiatives that deliver measurable impact.

  • Collaborate closely with Product, UX, Marketing, and Tech teams to implement new features, enhancements, and campaigns.

  • Analyse performance data to identify opportunities for growth and quickly adapt tactics to improve customer experience and business results.

  • Play a key part in our transformation project, contributing your expertise to the re-platform process and ensuring merchandising elements transition smoothly and innovate effectively.

  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring clear communication and alignment on priorities.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within your team, providing coaching and development opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in digital merchandising or e-commerce trading, ideally with responsibility for search, recommendations, taxonomy, or customer reviews.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and motivating a team.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Strategic mindset, able to balance day-to-day operational needs with long-term planning and innovation.
  • Data-driven approach—comfortable analysing metrics, setting targets, and driving improvements based on insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, confident in collaborating across functions and presenting ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working on digital transformation or re-platforming projects is a big plus.
  • Passion for improving the online customer journey and a keen eye for detail
IMPORTANT NOTE: This role can require working outside normal offices hours.
