About the role

The Head of Digital Content and Pharmacy Growth is responsible for developing, overseeing, and executing the company's digital content strategy along with our digital pharmacy growth strategy and plan.

The role involves managing business today as well as driving plans for the future:

Today, it is about effective management of people, and a number of key elements within our digital estate, including the Boots Health Hub, plus commercial services that support customers on Health journeys, such as Boots Online Prescriptions, Digital Pharmacy Services and wider digital healthcare business areas.

The future focus involves looking at how we can transform the Boots Health Hub, so that we can become the number one non-government resource in Google for Health advice. Within this, we'll bring in our wider Boots offer into a single content platform, including our emerging wellness content, beauty, and a method for responding to key trends rapidly.

As part of a wider digital and IT transformation programme (Condor), the post holder is also part of a wider team that shapes the emerging digital pharmacy experience, and how this will evolve with new technologies and more innovative/effective UX journeys.

Key responsibilities

Content Growth Key responsibility areas

  • Lead a matrixed team managing the entire digital content lifecycle, from ideation and production to distribution and analysis, ensuring that content aligns with commercial goals at Boots, scales to achieve a larger audience online, and ultimately resonates with the target audience.

  • Content Planning and Implementation: They develop, and (with their management team), implement, a comprehensive digital content strategy that aligns with our overall digital, marketing and our goals.

  • Content Creation and Production: They oversee the creation of various digital content formats, where today the lion's share is text and images but where there is an ambition to expand into broader digital formats including video, audio and tools, ensuring high quality and consistency, and collaborating with other expert-content teams such as marketing and SEO in a combined effort.

  • Content publishing. With team and other partners, managing the distribution of content within a new Content management system, Amplience, and ensuring that a strategy is in place for harnessing a new digital asset management system which would allow scaling of content across multiple channels in future. ,

  • Performance and Optimization: With specialists within and outside of the team, tracking and analyzing the performance of digital content, identifying areas for improvement, and optimizing strategies to maximize impact, then feeding insights in to key forums, including exec-level updates.

  • Quality and tone of voice: Acting as an ambassador for brand consistency and voice across all digital and health content, ensuring a unified and professional image. Alongside this, you will ensure relevant quality markers from an SEO-perspective are also bought to fruition in what is published online, such as ensuring that content meets the required E-E-A-T framework and standards.

Pharmacy Key Growth responsibility areas

  • Leading a small digital strategy function that articulates the ways that we can evolve and grow our digital pharmacy proposition in the short, medium and long term

  • They manage a team of commercial e-commerce leads who engage with the business to develop digital interventions that meet commercial objectives in the short, medium and long term.

  • Comfortable in managing team to deliver day to day growth activities including the optimising of customer journeys, SEO, content, marketing, and other online levers, as well as influencing and optimising future ways of working

  • Engaging, managing, and influencing multiple company partners across varying teams including working with marketing to develop an effective

More broadly, the role involves:

  • Team Leadership and Management: Leading and motivating a team of content managers, editors, and other digital marketing professionals.

  • Budget Management: Managing the digital content and pharmacy e-commerce budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and achieving a strong return on investment. Oversight and tracking of the digital pharmacy P+L, responsible for monitoring and driving KPIs to deliver overall digital pharmacy performance

  • Industry Trends and Best Practices: Staying up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in digital content marketing, adapting strategies as needed.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • · Working closely with other departments, such as marketing, sales, and product development, to ensure alignment and support.

  • Strategic data analysis of KPIs to inform decision making of new initiatives and plans, whilst ensuring transformation projects have landed successfully against KPIs

  • ·Analysing market trends using internal and external tools to review how Boots measures against its competitors, creating an action plan to win back market share.

It would be great if you also have

We're looking for someone who is a strategic thinker, a skilled communicator, a strong leader, and a passionate advocate for digital content alongside innovative healthcare innovation. You'll have:

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing digital content strategies, with understanding and experience of how relevant technologies and digital techniques are central to success

  • Excellent content creation background, with a focus on best-in-class curation, writing, editing, proofreading and how to shape teams in this way, having led digital content teams in the past

  • Experience with various digital content formats and platforms.

  • Knowledge of digital analytics and performance measurement tools and able to coach and develop team members who will lead performance reporting within your team

  • Strong understanding of SEO and online marketing principles, including performance marketing as well as how to drive growth through 'owned' channels such as CRM.

  • Strong digital experience within consumer health or lifestyle sector, with a strong understanding of online trading levers and performance marketing approaches.

  • Comfortable commercially; able to analyse, interpret and articulate financial and customer metrics; confident in using data and insight to drive performance.

  • A leader who is willing to think differently and to motivate others to achieve new successes within a tough competitive landscape

  • Excellent stakeholder management – confident engaging, influencing and holding to account team, peers and senior stakeholders

  • Confident in informing marketing plans and making decisions to optimise the online customer experience. Experience of multiagency working with a variety of marketing teams preferred.
