How Abbie has made a difference on the Boots Graduate Programme

For Royal Engineers Army Reservist, Abbie, her Boots Graduate Programme is providing the front line experience she needs as she commits to making a real difference to the environment through her career.

I’m in the third year of the Supply Chain Graduate Progamme and have already spent six-months on placements in store, in Supply, in Warehouse Operations, in training, and my favourite placement so far – in the Environment Team.

I loved it. I was working on how we become more sustainable with our waste through The UK Plastics Pact, and felt I was making a real difference on an incredibly important agenda.

I also experienced working with top brands as a Premium Supply Manager, managing a team as well as high profile clients through some big changes. To be responsible for that was great.

And now I’m looking forward to my final placement in the boots.com warehouse where I’ll look after a shift of up to 1,000 people. Working around the clock to fulfil all of our online orders is going to be intense.

I’ve experienced so much of the business on this scheme. I’ve been given real responsibility and have made some great connections and networks. But the work I’ve done on lessening the business’s environmental impact has been the most satisfying.

After my placement finishes there’ll be lots of graduate supply chain jobs open to me, but I’d love to go into the Pharmacy Supply Chain. I’ve already worked with them to make their packaging more sustainable and I’m excited to help them do more.
