What does a typical day look like for you as a Health Copywriter in the B-Hive?

A typical day for me in the B-Hive is always varied, which keeps things exciting. I often switch between writing about different health topics, from heart and foot health to women’s health. My day starts with research to ensure all content is up-to-date and evidence-based, followed by tailoring it to be accessible and engaging for our customers. I collaborate with the health hub team and pharmacy team to make sure everything aligns with the overall goals, which brings an extra layer of creativity to my role.

How did your career path lead you to becoming a Health Copywriter?

My passion for healthcare led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in microbiology and then a master’s in women’s health. Although I found healthcare fascinating, I realised the clinical side wasn’t for me. I wanted to empower people by making health information more approachable. Combining my scientific background with my love for writing, I found my way into health copywriting, where I can help people understand their bodies and make informed decisions.

How do you stay inspired and creatively challenged in your role?

I stay inspired by reading widely, whether it’s the latest health news or exploring how others convey messages. I believe that good writing comes from exposure to different writing styles and viewpoints. Staying creatively challenged comes from finding new angles on familiar topics. There’s always something fresh to explore in healthcare, which helps me think outside the box and find innovative ways to make complex ideas more digestible.

How would you describe the company culture, both within your team and across the wider business?

The B-Hive team has a collaborative and supportive culture, with a real sense of camaraderie. We value wellness, so we make sure to take breaks, go for runs and get fresh air whenever possible. Across Boots, there’s a strong focus on inclusivity, innovation and making a positive impact. The company fosters an environment where personal wellbeing and professional growth are equally supported.

What do you love most about working as a Health Copywriter?

What I love most is the constant learning. Every day brings new health topics, trends and medical advancements, which I get to share with our customers. It’s fulfilling to know that my work can make health information clearer and more accessible, helping people make informed decisions about their wellbeing. Plus, I’m always learning something new that can be applied in both my professional and personal life.

Can you share a project you’re especially proud of from the B-Hive?

I’m especially proud of helping to develop the A-Z of health conditions on the website. It’s a comprehensive resource that helps our customers understand and manage various health conditions. I’m also proud of the success of editorials like ‘Are thongs bad for your health?’ and ‘Why does my vagina smell?’. These pieces have sparked important conversations and helped break down taboos around women’s health topics, and I’m thrilled with how well they’ve resonated with our customers.

What’s next for you?

While I’m not sure where my career will take me next, I’m excited for the future. I know that the B-Hive will continue to support me, whether it’s through opportunities for growth, more leadership responsibilities or deepening my involvement in health equity and advocacy. I’m looking forward to continuing my journey of learning and contributing to making health information accessible for everyone.
