Holly tells us why she loves being a Boots Beauty Specialist

I’m Holly, a 34 year old married mother of two. I have a 13 year old boy, Jake, and a 3 year old girl, Annabella. As a family, we are really into sports and fitness. My husband is a champion body builder and I have run in various half marathons and I do volleyball training once a week (currently trying to get the hubby to be my beach volley ball partner over the summer!).  I’ve even braved a tandem skydive which was an amazing experience.

I have worked in the beauty industry for over 10 years now and been really fortunate to work with some amazing premium brands. I have previously worked behind the scenes for a well-known TV shopping channel which gave me a really different perspective on beauty products.

Earlier last year I decided it was time to try something new and I saw the opportunity to be a Boots Beauty Specialist (BBS) which really appealed to me as Boots is my favourite store and I felt it was a really fresh and different approach to a typical beauty advisor role.

Being a busy mum of two means my life is non-stop. From school runs to toddler groups, endless activities and all the organisation that comes with it. I wanted to find a role where I could use my passion for beauty without having to compromise on the time I spend with my kids. I feel so lucky that as a Boots Beauty Specialist I get to do just that. I work part-time so my life has a great balance – not only do I love going to work and doing something I love, I also have the quality time I need with my family (and even manage to squeeze in a little bit of “me time” here and there!)

This role is perfect for me, I get to interact with customers so differently to any of the positions I’ve had before. Sometimes I think customers can feel a bit intimidated when walking into a beauty hall with so many different options and not knowing what’s best for them and their needs. It is also nice as a customer to explore other brands’ products. Brand loyalty is, of course, amazing, but as a Beauty Specialist we have the opportunity to get to know our customers, really understand their  needs and then advise on the best products for them – so they could end up with a mascara from one brand, a lipstick from another and a moisturiser from another.

On top of this, the education I’ve received at Boots has been fantastic. I’m from a skincare background and love learning anything new about skincare, but I’ve learned so much more about make-up too. The training is continuous so I feel like I’m always learning about all the products across the different brands and developing myself too.
