The Boots Regional Dispensing Hub (RDH) in Basingstoke is transforming the way repeat prescriptions are dispensed. Combining pharmacy expertise with logistics and automation, our state-of-the-art, semi-automated hub supports Boots pharmacies across the region by preparing and dispatching prescription medicines safely, accurately and efficiently.
As a pharmacy and logistics hybrid operation, the RDH uses advanced technology and automation to centrally dispense repeat prescriptions and dispatch them back to our stores within 24 hours of receiving the prescription. This innovative way of working helps our pharmacy teams in store spend more time with patients, deliver more healthcare services and support the communities they serve.
About the role
Working as an Operative is an exciting opportunity to join a growing healthcare operation and play a key role in ensuring patients receive the medicines they need. You’ll be part of a supportive team and help manage the flow of stock through the site, ensuring medicines are received, stored and prepared for dispensing in line with strict quality, safety and patient care standards.
No two days are exactly the same. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, teamwork and attention to detail are essential. Whether you're receiving deliveries, managing stock, or preparing products for automated dispensing, you'll be making a real difference behind the scenes to support patient care across the region and help ensure prescriptions reach our stores quickly and efficiently.
The salary for this role is £13.12 per hour. This role is based on-site at the Boots Regional Dispensing Hub located above the Boots Distribution centre on Rutherford Road, Basingstoke. The site is open Monday to Sunday from 06:00-22:00, so some flexibility may be required with working hours, including occasional weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Receive, check and process deliveries arriving at the site.
- Accurately sort and store stock in designated locations within the hub.
- Pick, sort and prepare medication ready for automated dispensing into individual customer orders.
- Ensure stock is handled safely, securely and efficiently at all times.
- Carry out inventory and stock control activities to maintain accuracy across the operation.
- Support the smooth movement of products through the dispensing process.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Operations and Pharmacy teams to meet service and performance targets.
- Follow all health, safety and operational procedures to support the safe and legal handling of medicines.
- Provide support with additional operational tasks as required.
What you'll need to have (our must-haves)
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A good level of numeracy and literacy.
- Reliable timekeeping and attendance.
- The ability to follow processes, procedures and health and safety requirements consistently.
- A commitment to quality, accuracy and patient safety.
- Confidence using technology or willingness to learn new systems.
- Flexibility may be required, including occasional weekend work.
It would be great if you also have
- Experience in a warehouse, logistics, production, manufacturing or pharmacy environment.
- Previous experience using stock management systems or handheld scanning equipment.
- Experience working within regulated or quality-controlled environments.
