Hello, my name is Laura and I am on the Commercial graduate scheme. I’m currently on my first placement, working in Healthcare trading as the Assistant Buying Manager for Complementary Medicines.
I love working in trading – it’s been great responsibility from day one! My role involves weekly and monthly financial reporting, managing supplier relationships, scoping new products and planning and negotiating promotional activity. Working in trading can feel like you are running your own business, owning the category you work on and making decisions to drive sales.
Before I started at Boots, I could not tell you what Complementary Medicines were but now I’m a go to person for advice on herbal sleep aids, probiotics, Manuka honey and menopause products!
I moved to Nottingham for the graduate scheme from Reading and currently house share with three other girls on the Commercial scheme. I love our house in West Bridgford and in many ways it feels like we are enjoying a second University experience (maybe with a few less nights out in the middle of the week!). A great perk to joining the graduate scheme is that you are joining a community of other young people starting out their careers, so you aren’t short of people to share your experience with.
Alongside our role we are lucky to be supported by a brilliant development team – meaning we have great training opportunities and dedicated time for self-development. We also get the opportunity to work on areas outside of our day jobs – such as running a charity day for all 3000 Boots employees in July.
There is a great culture at Boots, with flexible working hours, open plan office space and sociable, welcoming people. A marked change from studying History at University, I have really enjoyed this year and am looking forward to what my next placement will bring!
