After being made redundant, I spent some time looking at various different roles. I decided to apply for a consultant vacancy at Boots UK, and was fortunate enough to be offered a sun shop consultant job in the airport.
When I joined I learnt an incredible amount and went on a two day training course which enabled me to help my customers to the best of my ability.
I then worked to become a health and beauty consultant, because this enabled me to help all customers across the store. I was also trained in No7 and completed my healthcare advisor training. There are so many opportunities at Boots and the company supports our development to help us to move into the role we want
It didn’t stop for me here; I started my management training and was offered a role as an Assistant Manager in April 2013. I loved this role because I find developing others extremely rewarding!
I then went off for maternity leave and came back six months later in December 2013. It felt like I had never left the company, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The store colleagues are so close and everyone supports one another.
In January 2014 I was enrolled onto the store manager course which I completed within that year. I am now running a busy airside store in Gatwick and I am extremely excited about this. I love being somewhere so diverse and unique. Working in an airport means we meet many different customers of a wide range of nationalities travelling to lots of different places. We are always busy and kept on our toes and no day is the same.
I am proud to work for such a supportive company that really listens and gives me many opportunities for development. I have a career, which is important to me and most of all I have a career that I love, and I work with a fantastic team of people who I will never forget.
