About the role

An exciting opportunity to develop and lead the commercial agenda for what is essentially a startup enterprise within one of the most successful and trusted businesses in the UK.

Boots Healthcare Logistics is the evolution of a function that has served Boots internally for 15 years. An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the function and offer our services to the wider healthcare market. Boots Healthcare Logistics operates as a business within a business as part of the wider Boots The Chemists family. The commercial development manager will form an important part of the senior leadership team, an unofficial “Board of Directors” if you will. As a new to market entity, BHL is essentially a startup enterprise, where the Commercial Development Manager will enjoy freedoms to develop a commercial strategy from the ground up with an expectation that the next few years will present a significant opportunity for high growth. Whilst the service is based on a courier model, it is filled with healthcare professionals and acts as an extended healthcare service where service and the patient behind the parcel is paramount. As this is a new venture, you will have the opportunity to create the future within BHL and a wider network of senior Boots professionals and leaders.

  • Develop a sales strategy based on identified market segments
  • Work with the BHL operation to develop service solutions
  • Work with wider Boots Healthcare internal partners to follow up on sales leads
  • Customer relationship management
  • Project management to take clients from interest to service delivery
  • Deliver sales and retention targets

What you’ll need to have

  • You will have a strong background in sales, particularly building a sales strategy.
  • Good relationship management skills
  • Have initiative and innovative thinking to thrive in uncertain environments and work independently
  • Hold others to account to ensure targets are delivered as intended.
  • Use customer insight to further develop Boots Healthcare Logistics.
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills
  • Strong cross functional working skills. E.g. Digital, Marketing, Governance, Operations, and Legal.

It would be great if you also have

  • Startup experience is beneficial.
  • UK Healthcare experience, in the life science and NHS/Non NHS hospital environment
  • Background in logistics helpful but not essential
  • Public sector procurement experience may also be beneficial
