About the role

This is a key role to ensure that our UK Business Units are compliant with all UK customs legislation, that outsourced brokers are completing customs declarations correctly on our behalf and all customs accreditations are maintained in line with customs policy. Within in this role you’ll also ensure that the team have appropriate customs training and that internal systems infrastructure is working properly in order to accurately value inventory with correct freight and duty costs

Another key element is managing our Customs compliance, duty bill and AEO accreditations. This is a necessary part of our strategy for an optimal supply chain as well as quickly getting to grips with all the different ways we do things to see potential compliance risks or efficiencies will be essential. You will report to the Head of Imports & Exports, supporting our UK entities, including No7 Beauty Company, Boots UK and International Retail.

Other responsibilities areas include:

  • Maintain AEO accreditations for all three UK entities including audits and implementing audit outputs and recommendations
  • Manage the relationship with HMRC
  • Manage Assistant Customs Manager including ensuring internal audits are maintained, errors resolved, and re-training provided
  • Manage relationships with outsourced brokers, third-party service providers and Customs consultants
  • Gain a full understanding of how the Import Operations team works and any related customs processes fulfilled, either in the team or by external providers
  • Link with Import Operations team on classifications, service provider performance, voluntary disclosures
  • Feed into review of customs brokerage strategy

What you’ll need to have

  • Extensive Customs compliance knowledge including interpreting legislation, classification, valuation, origin preference and import documents Experience of maintaining AEO and associated audits (Internal and HMRC)
  • Understanding of Incoterms and how to explain them to others
  • Expertise in understanding imports, duties and taxes into non-UK markets (Asia/Gulf regions)
  • Experience of SAP ideal
  • Manage reporting and data analysis in Excel, eg duty reports, Channel Island reports
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external network
  • Excellent leadership skills
