Product Technologist - Healthcare
The Product Technologist uses technical project management and product development expertise to deliver new products to market that support the Boots Brand growth ambition.
A critical success factor for this role will be the ability to create and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including manufacturing contract service providers.
Typically, the role is accountable for delivery of 10-20 New Product and Existing Product Development projects with a combined value >£50m Sales value. These may include Vitamins, Pain, Cough Cold, First Aid, Eye Care, Allergy & Seasonal products.
The role is based in Nottingham and is a permanent contract.
About the role
The role holder will work within the Boots Technical Service Team and will coordinate the cross-functional project team and must be able engage a variety of technical & commercial stakeholders in project delivery, ensuring they understand key opportunities and risks and are able support/ challenge the business opportunity.
The role holder will support the development of a robust 3-year pipeline to deliver the continued growth of their categories. Able to coordinate the navigation of complex technical issues through their own knowledge, key relationships, and ability to influence other decisions makers.
To achieve this, they must maintain a high level of governance, technical competence and awareness of the industry across key healthcare and wellness product classifications (Medicines, Medical Devices, Biocides, Food/Dietary Supplements and cosmetics) and understand broader global implications.
Finally, a compliance mindset is essential to ensure that things are done in the correct way to support long term business growth.
• Managing the planning and delivery of projects within the portfolio through the application of project management best practice including planning, governance, issue and risk management, change control, stakeholder management, utilization of systems, escalation and accurate up to date provision of project data and reporting
• Ensuring all projects are delivered via the appropriate development route according to the business strategy and that all project plans, briefs and key project documents are available on time and are appropriately specified to meet brand/customer/supply chain needs and meet business KPIs (time, cost, quality)
• Responsible for timely engagement of all appropriate internal teams (e.g. technical, commercial, product, supply) and experts (e.g. regulatory for product registration) to ensure successful product delivery/market launch
• Supporting the technical/ functional and Supplier relationship to ensure legislative compliance (safety screening, claims substantiation, freedom to practice etc.)
• Conducting appropriate risk assessments for the product and managing risk throughout the project
• Coordinating and compiling the technical product data required for technical product approval and release.

What you’ll need to have
• Excellent skills in relationship development & management both internally and externally with a focus on delivery
• Previous experience in project management
• Previous experience in consumer healthcare or pharmaceutical experience in technical or project management roles
• Good technical understanding of consumer healthcare categories
• Strong commercial acumen and proven track record of identifying the right opportunity, gaining business buy-in and converting this into commercial success
• Ability to communicate and manage risk to the business (inc. management of senior stakeholders) by balancing technical risk with business opportunity
