Job Summary

The Business Solution Manager role sits within the Data Platform Team, reporting to the Business Partner Lead. This role proactively works with the business analytics and IT teams across Boots UK, Boots Opticians, No.7 Company and International Retail to understand the data and analytics products needed from the Data Platform. The role is responsible for engaging with the divisional teams to define requirements and to ensure the design of end-to-end solutions and clear statements of deliverables, outcomes and delivery plans to enable progression to the delivery stage. Critical to the role is the collaboration with the Data Office platform architecture, engineering, analytics and insights teams as well as 3rd party engineering partners, like TCS and WBA Naples.

Stakeholder management, attention to detail, interpersonal and communication skills, and considering views and opinions across business and IT teams are vital skills for this role. This role must manage the assigned Project Managers, Data Analysts, and Solution Architects to balance the pipeline of emerging and active projects.

The role will act as an evangelist for the Data Office and Data Platform, ensuring solutions are defined and aligned to the Data Office strategy and ensuring that our Data remains secure, trusted and governed.

Job Responsibilities

• Act as a Data Platform subject matter expert & partner to the Divisional business and IT teams to help shape their Data and Analytics strategies into real business cases and delivery plans.
• An evangelist for the Data Platform to drive engagement and alignment to deliver on WBA’s strategic priorities to become a data-led organisation.
• Must Educate, inform and influence Divisional IT and business teams of the WBA IT data governance and data security strategy and principles.
• Develop a solutions roadmap and project portfolio in data management, reporting, business intelligence and analytics.
• Management of Divisional projects with significant strategic importance, managing a demand pipeline and prioritising new requests.
• Partner with Divisional business and IT teams and the Data Platform Team to assess the feasibility and scope of intake requests.
• Engage with and present to senior leadership steering committees and governance forums.
• Lead the scoping and elaboration of new projects through the Project Mandate, which provides requirements, solutions, delivery plans and estimates.
• Coordinate with business and IT SMEs to ensure requirements are agreed upon and signed off, data and technical solutions are fit for purpose to meet the requirements and delivery plans, and estimates are within confidence levels to secure appropriate funding.
• Support the divisional teams, as required, with the creation of Divisional Business Cases to secure the delivery funding and ensure the proposed Data and Analytics elements of the project are clearly understood and correctly scoped.
• Work with Data Security, Privacy and Data Owners to ensure compliance with WBA data governance and security standards and legislative requirements and educate business teams on any restrictions or approvals required.

What we need from you:

• Understand industry trends regarding data and analytics, direction and best practices – ensuring our businesses understand the ‘art of the possible’ and are strategically aligned to be market leaders.
• Strong level of experience in the design and development of Data Warehouse, BI, Analytics, Master Data or similar data solutions in a global, federated and local context
• Must have experience in delivering and leading IT projects and have a good understanding of delivering data and analytics projects
• Previous experience in project delivery and/or as a senior business analyst.
• Previous experience working in a global matrix-led environment with multiple suppliers, project functions and locations.
• Experience in managing cross-functionally and globally, considering and evaluating the priorities of multiple departments/divisions/countries whilst balancing the desire for a global strategy to recommend the right course of action and ensure stakeholder alignment.
• Strong interpersonal skills are critical as the candidate must navigate a complex matrix organization.
• Significant exposure to managing teams and relationships in a matrix environment.
• Significant exposure to managing vendors in the delivery of projects.
• Ability to operate at all levels with excellent communication skills, including executive leadership.
• Good presentation skills.
• Excellent senior/exec stakeholder management skills – must be very comfortable communicating and presenting to senior stakeholders.
