Our Analytics Engineering team provides the ML/AI platform and data marts for our data science and analytics community within Boots. We’re looking for a talented individual to make the next step in their career and join us as a Senior Data Engineer. Data engineering is a broad discipline so we’re seeking candidates from a range of backgrounds including: Data/ML engineering, DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, Business Intelligence or Software Engineering.

As Senior Data Engineer you will be:

  • Providing thought leadership to our organisation on your area of expertise within the data engineering space.
  • Coaching and supporting fellow teammates and colleagues.
  • Creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assembling large, complex data sets based on our data science and analytics requirements.
  • Identifying, designing, and implementing DevOps process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Building the infrastructure required for optimal transformation of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, Python, Spark and Microsoft Azure technologies.
  • Working with Data Scientists to build machine learning and AI data products that utilise the data pipeline to provide industry leading data products.

About you
  • Demonstrable experience building and optimising ‘big data’ pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Expertise in efficiently transforming datasets through SQL, Python or Spark (preferably within DataBricks)
  • Working knowledge of message queuing and stream processing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services: Synapse, Machine Learning Studio, Databricks etc.
  • Data pipeline and workflow management tools: Data Factory, Airflow, etc.
  • Experience producing production code within one or more of the following environments: SQL, Python, Java, C++, Scala, Node / React
  • Familiarity with agile ways of working such as Scrum/Kanban
