Patient Safety Development Manager – Permanent, Full-time, Nottingham Support Office

This is a unique and pivotal role in the central Chief Pharmacist’s Office for a high-achieving, experienced pharmacist, with a passion for patient safety, holistic patient-centred care and supporting the development of others. You’ll use your creativity and insights to provide the business with specialist patient safety expertise that underpins its evolving patient safety culture, safe-systems thinking, understanding of human factors and continual improvement activity to ensure that high standards of quality and governance are achieved and maintained.

About the opportunity
Patient safety and patient care are at the heart of what our pharmacy teams do each day.
To ensure that our team members are enabled to practise safely and with compassionate care, you’ll lead the creation and development of innovative resources (for in-store pharmacy teams and their leaders), which form a critical part of the Chief Pharmacist’s patient safety agenda, reflecting best professional practice and the learnings from pharmacy incidents.
Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent Pharmacist - Quality, Governance & Insights, you’ll use your expertise and experience as a pharmacist to influence our quality improvement agenda that has patient safety and holistic patient-centred care at its core. You’ll assist other team members with their day-to-day management of adverse incidents emanating from dispensing, pharmacy services, pharmacy diagnostic, testing and vaccination procedures and other adverse professional events reported by Boots UK stores and support the professional development of any direct reports, as appropriate. You’ll have the opportunity for input into projects, working collaboratively with other members of the wider Chief Pharmacist’s Office team, to help ensure that patients and customers receive a caring, high quality service.

Your responsibilities
• You’ll identify the ongoing patient safety training needs of all pharmacy team member roles, and the relevant field-based leadership roles across Boots UK, and deliver suitably tailored solutions
• You’ll recognise aspects relating to patient safety culture within Boots UK pharmacy that require remediation and bring your expertise to the development of viable and timely solutions
• You’ll demonstrate your understanding of how human factors can introduce risks in dispensing, pharmacy services and other clinical initiatives and create appropriate resources to mitigate these
• You’ll be involved in new work-streams, such that any potential patient safety risks are recognised and remediated (or suitably managed), using your personal expertise and working collaboratively with key stakeholders, as required
• You’ll have input into relevant internal and external meetings, quality and governance activities and projects
• You’ll lead and support the development of your direct reports, and provide advice and guidance to other members of the Chief Pharmacist’s Office and the wider Pharmacy function as required

Our ideal candidate

The successful candidate will:
• Be a pharmacist with a minimum of seven years’ post-registration experience (at least two years of in-store working) who is able to work independently and as part of a team
• Have exemplary writing skills, which reflect a meticulous attention to detail and a passion for order and quality
• Create outputs of a consistently high standard that are suitably tailored for stakeholders who operate at different levels across the business
• Demonstrate excellent organisation and planning skills, managing multiple priorities with appropriate pace
• Use personal impact and influence to ensure that established and evolving pharmacy procedures and initiatives are suitably robust to promote patient safety
• Use IT resources (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) appropriately to create the innovative outputs required from the role-holder
