We are looking for a customs expert who can help us guide us through all the new customs procedures introduced after Brexit. If you have knowledge of UK and EU customs processes and know how to build relationships with customs in both the UK and ROI then this could be the role for you.

About the opportunity

This role is a key specialist leadership role that will be part of the Imports & Exports Team who are largely based in our Nottingham office. Whilst this role will be focused on our movements between UK and Ireland, the wider team offer global import, export and customs services to Boots, Boots Retail Ireland and No7 Beauty Company. Your role will report to the Senior Manager – Imports & Exports. This is a newly created role so the candidate will have the opportunity to shape the role and really drive us forward.

• Ensure that our complex customs declarations both in house and outsourced are completed in accordance with the right legislative need and correct duty amounts paid
• Interpret customs legislation and understand how to apply that in completing customs declarations
• Lead a number of customs related projects designed to support optimal ways of working and reducing the duty bill
• Be the Imports & Exports workstream lead on export health certificate requirements for NI and ROI
• Build and maintain relationships with customs authorities and government agencies EG DEFRA, HMRC, Irish Revenue, DAFM, HSE

About you

• Our ideal candidate will have significant experience in completion of customs declarations and knowledge of the related systems (CHIEF, CDS, AIS)
• You will need to demonstrate how you are able to interpret and apply customs legislation and keep ahead of changes in EU and UK customs law
• You will have experience of customs procedures eg Transit documents, bonded warehouses, RGR, OPR
• You will have a great network of external contacts in the industry, eg retail, customs or industry bodies like the British Retail Consortium
• Demonstrate how you have maximised opportunities to reduce duty costs
• Excellent leadership skills
