To lead the External Communications team, developing both strategic and tactical corporate and consumer communications campaigns that give our customers more reasons to love, visit and buy from our stores and pharmacies and further enhance our brand reputation with key stakeholders.

You will be responsible for media relations including overseeing a busy press office and managing reactive as well as proactive communications.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and CSR, Boots UK

Key Responsibilities

• In conjunction with the Director of Communications, develop and lead the external communications strategy aligned to strategic priorities of the business. This will include corporate, brand, consumer and pharmacy communications.
• Develop and deliver consumer PR campaigns, notably across the areas of beauty, health and wellness but also including other categories such as Baby and gifting. These will often be integrated communications campaigns working closely with the Marketing team and other areas of the business.
• Develop the professional pharmacy and healthcare communications strategy and amplify Public Affairs pharmacy agenda in each country of the UK, working closely with the WBA public affairs team.
• Continuously develop and activate the corporate narrative with key media and stakeholders.
• Oversee the creation of PR content and take a publishing approach to ensure content is used in earned media.
• Manage and triage press office enquiries including crisis communications
• Accountable for managing budget spend on all corporate communications activities and demonstrating return through robust measurement and clear impact
• Development of external and internal relationships to drive positive brand reputation, to include management of the key news, corporate, consumer and pharmacy media relationships.
• Lead and develop a team of seven communications professionals and manage key agency partners.
• Collaborate with partners across the business and provide counsel to key executives and spokespeople including chaperoning media interviews

• Strong media relations experience including corporate, crisis and reputation
• Experience of delivering large, integrated, consumer PR campaigns which gain reach across national earned media, including experience of content creation.
• Comfortable working in a complex, fast paced, matrixed, global organisation and managing a varied and busy team workload
• Collaborative, creative and experienced in building both external and internal relationships as well as inspiring and managing agencies and teams.
