What are we doing?

Boots has a strong and trusted heritage in supporting the healthcare of the nation and in this time of need we are stepping forward to work with the Department of Health and Social Care, alongside other organisations, to resource Testing Centres across the country to support COVID-19 testing. The primary objective is to increase testing capacity throughout the UK and respond to need, testing essential workers and members of the public who have symptoms of Coronavirus.

You will be able to use your skills to make a real difference. As a COVID Tester Trainer you will play a crucial role in maximising our capacity as a country to fight this outbreak both on a national and local level.

The Role

We are recruiting for Tester Trainers to train small groups at COVID testing sites, ensuring they deliver exceptional patient and clinical care and correctly administer a throat and nasal swab test. Reporting to the Tester Supervisor you will be working alongside Boots colleagues and other partners to administer tests for essential workers and members of the public.

  • Full training will be provided
  • Full Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied in line with NHS standards.
  • Hours of work to cover a working pattern over 7 days a week with rest breaks
    • Either 9hrs (per shift) (08.30-17.30) for 9.00am-5.00pm site, or, 8hrs (per shift) across all 8.00am-8.00pm sites
Tester Trainer Responsibilities:
  • Delivers brilliant care at test centres, responding quickly to all patients’ needs
  • Works primarily as a Tester but also delivers face-to-face training to new Testers
  • Delivers the testing training and prepare the training facilities, including:
    How to safely and correctly administer the throat and nasal swab test to NHS standards
    Hand washing procedures and maintaining high levels of personal hygiene
    How and when to apply and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Prepares Testers for how to communicate with and reassure the public who visit the site to be tested
  • Trains testers on how to package up the samples ready to send to laboratories for processing and on daily procedures of how to dispose of biohazard containers appropriately
  • Observes and evaluates Testers during training, provide feedback and make corrections where needed
  • Gives sign off for Testers after necessary number of observations
  • Provides on-going support to the Tester Supervisors
  • Complies with all safety rules and procedures to ensure their own safety and that of colleagues and patients at all times, ensuring high presentation standards
  • Knows how Boots testing services support Government testing goals

Applicants must be in general good health and not classified as in any of the COVID high risk groups therefore:
  • Must not have a long-term condition
  • Must not be pregnant
  • Must not have a weakened immune system through medical conditions or therapy
In addition, applicants must consider the following:
  • Willingness to work outside (weather protection will be provided)
  • Risk status of family members in the same household.
