What are we doing?

Boots has a strong and trusted heritage in supporting the Healthcare of the Nation and in this time of need we are stepping forward to work with the Department of Health, Amazon and a variety of organisations to set up and resource testing stations across the country to test for COVID 19. The primary objective is to test NHS teams and allow those who test negative to return to work on the frontline confident in the knowledge they are not positive for Coronavirus.

What is the context?

The global impact of COVID-19 has been profound, and the public health threat it represents is the most serious threat we have seen in a respiratory virus since the 1918 H1N1 influenza pandemic (Spanish Flu). NHS Staff are working around the clock to get ready for the peak of this pandemic and it is only right that we use every resource at our disposal to bolster the frontline in the face of this unprecedented challenge for our NHS.

Why aren’t the NHS doing this?

Screening is currently taking place however the volumes required to combat the virus are significant and it is clear more support is required for testing. We have been asked to support the countries efforts to understand infection rates and help with workforce demands to allow the NHS to continue caring for patients.

The Role

We are seeking to recruit up to 100 Boots colleagues and volunteers with leadership capability to take on the role of COVID-19 Testing Supervisor to oversee the day to day testing station operations. These colleagues will work alongside both Boots teams and other partners in the project.

1000 Covid-19 Testers are being recruited nationally to undertake COVID 19 Swab testing in locations across the UK. Teams will work as groups currently of up to 5 in designated locations with each site having a designated site manager.

Applicants must be in general good health and not classified as in any of the COVID High risk groups therefore:
  • Must not have a long-term condition
  • Must not be pregnant
  • Must not have a weakened immune system through medical conditions or therapy
  • Must not be over 70
In addition, applicants must consider the following: -
  • Ability to physically stand for several hours
  • Willingness to work outside (weather protection will be provided)
  • Risk status of family members in the same household.
  • Full training will be provided
  • Full Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied in line with NHS standards.
  • Hours of work to cover a working pattern over 7 days a week with rest breaks.
Site Manager Responsibilities
  • Responsibility for staff welfare on site including rotas, breaks and lunches
  • Ensuring facilities for teams are in place as planned
  • Ensuring operatives have Personal Protective Equipment and consumable in line with NHS Standards.
  • Managing Stakeholders including but not limited to Police, Security, facilities Management
  • Data Capture of Number of Tests Performed
  • Reporting of incidents and resolution of site queries
  • Onsite training oversight
  • Health and Safety
