The offer process

You’ll find most of the information you need on this site. But we’ve added a list of frequently asked questions here to give you even more.

If you find you still have a question after you’ve read these, get in touch.

I want to be considered for a preregistration place with Boots. Do I have to do a 3rd year placement?

No – whilst you will be at an advantage if you have shown how closely your great performance links your future with Boots – there will be a small number of external preregistration places available in specific locations in 2013.

I work for Boots already - do I need to apply for the SPP?

Yes. You will still need to apply for SPP even if you already work for us in at the weekends or holidays. You will not be considered for a SPP unless you apply for an SPP.

I work for Boots and have completed all the training. Why do I need to complete another placement?

The Summer Placement Programme is really about enriching and developing your learning and there are a variety of types/formats of pharmacy you can work in to gain experience, so each placement you do with us will be different.

I want to do my preregistration in Scotland; do I need to do a summer placement?

Yes. Employers are asked to provide a list of their preferred students for the preregistration places they have been allocated. It’s therefore important to successfully complete a 3rd year summer placement as this will mean you are included in the information we supply to NHS Education for Scotland (NES). For further information about the application process please visit the NES website on http://www.nes.scot.nhs.uk/

Can I apply for a placement in the Republic of Ireland?

We offer summer placements in the ROI, however you WILL NOT be able to complete your preregistration year in ROI unless you are studying in one of the ROI Universities. Please note that if you are a 3rd year UK graduate and you decide to return to ROI for your summer placement it may be difficult to obtain a preregistration placement back in the UK in the location of your choice.

Is it an advantage to have previous experience with Boots?

Yes - we gather internal recommendations regarding any previous placements and a positive previous experience will give you an advantage over other applicants who have not joined us for a placement before. However, it does not guarantee a place on the programme.

I applied last year and was successful. Do I have to apply again?

Yes - you absolutely need to complete a new application.

Can I use my user name and log in from last year?

Yes if your account is still active you can log in on the same profile and update your details.

Do I have to do the entire application at the same time or can I save it and return to it?

The whole registration and application process can be completed within 45 minutes, however you are able to save and return to your application. The only part of the application you cannot save or start again is the behavioural questionnaire, which has to be completed in one sitting. Please do not share your answers with your friends as we will not accept any applications that clearly are copies of other applicants.

How will I know the application has gone through?

We will send one automatic confirmation email when we received your application.

Once I have submitted my application, can I go back and change my answers?

No – you are not able to edit your answers – but you can amend your personal profile to update your details. Remember to make a note of your username and password so you can access your personal profile easily.

Can I choose to work in a particular Boots store?

No - due to the number of students we recruit we couldn’t guarantee that you will be in a particular store, that’s why we ask you to tell us the area you wish to be in rather than a specific store. All of our students regardless of the size or location of the pharmacy received the same great training from our pharmacists.

I work for Boots; can I do my placement in my store?

Make sure you tell us you work for us (you will be asked) and give us the store details. If that store is allocated as a SPP store then we could place you where you work, however we can’t guarantee that you will be allocated that store.

I’m prepared to work in a priority location, will that disadvantage me from getting my first choice?

No - your first preference will be the one we will consider in every instance. We would ask you to put a priority location in order to increase your chances of getting a placement - especially if your first choice locations are in popular locations such as large towns or cities.

Can I go to a different location for my preregistration year?

The student completing the summer placement programme within that local geography will have priority for those preregistration positions. You can be considered in the second instance for any locations outside the geography in which you have completed your summer placement. However this may mean that you are left without a place if all students in the alternative location accept the preregistration offer.

If I apply to another location, and have to move for 8 weeks, will Boots pay for my relocation?

No – we do not offer relocation expenses for the Summer Placement Programme, so please only specify locations where you are genuinely able to work.

I have lost my log in details from last year what do I do?

Go to www.boots.jobs and then to 'my jobs' and click on forgotten password - the system will send you your password within 24 hours.
