Our success on the high street is the result of a very long and eventful history. The Boot family began selling herbal remedies from a small store in Nottingham in 1849. We gradually built a network of over 180 stores by 1900.
Today we have over 3,200 retail outlets worldwide, of which 2,900 have a pharmacy. Our UK retail network is made up of around 2,550 healthcare outlets ranging from smaller dispensing pharmacies to larger high street and edge-of-town health and beauty stores.
Internationally, we operate in many countries and we're planning to open in many more. We have 115,000 worldwide employees, and our merger with Alliance UniChem in 2006 really opened up an exciting future for Boots.
But wherever we're based, in whatever capacity, it's all about putting the Pharmacist at the heart of healthcare within our local communities.
