Qualifications when I started at Boots: None – I was only 16!

My Career so far: I started working at Boots as a Saturday Healthcare Assistant 9 years ago, working and progressing all the time I was studying. I moved on to become a Sunday Team Manager and when the decision came as to what career path I wanted to follow after I’d completed my degree, I knew that a retail career in Boots was the way for me. So I began to pursue a career in management and have never looked back since. After a 12 months in my current store I’m about to move to a bigger store, and after that I’ll be looking to move into an Area or General Manager role.

My typical day: Typical day, that’s a tricky one. I guess my day usually starts with reviewing the previous day’s performance against my benchmark group. Then I walk the shop floor ensuring we’re ready to trade and delegate duties to the Team Manager. I’ll also speak to the pharmacist and the pharmacy team, spend time with customers, observe my team and support them wherever needed.

The best thing about Boots: The people. No matter what store you’re in, Boots has some fantastic people. They’re fun and friendly to work with, open and honest, and always caring for each other and their customers, which creates a great atmosphere. There’s also the variety and the fact that no two days are the same, I could be dealing with a customer one minute and sharing our vision of the future with the team the next.
