"Boots is constantly delivering new initiatives faster than the competition - and that's brilliant"
Job title: Pharmacy Manager
Qualifications when I started at Boots: Masters degree in Pharmacy
My career so far: After qualifying in 2002, I worked as a Pharmacist in Mansfield. Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of stores around Sheffield – some of them high street, some in edge of town retail parks. I now work in the large destination store. It’s a ‘premier’ store which means it delivers the best service and has the best teams. It’s an opportunity I couldn’t let pass me by.
My typical day: Every day is different. The atmosphere is buzzing. I could be a store pharmacist one day and at Head Office another. Developing our teams is a major focus for me, whether they’re Accuracy Checking Technicians, Dispensers, or Healthcare Advisers. The attraction of my role is the variety and opportunities it offers.
The best thing about Boots: I think it’s working with a fantastic leadership team to deliver a service that’s world-leading. Boots is at the forefront of the pharmacy agenda. It’s constantly delivering new initiatives faster than the competition – and that’s brilliant.
If you could compare yourself to a Boots product what would it be?
“I think it would have to be one of the Boots all round medicines for colds, because they treat lots of different things, so it has to be very, very broad, which describes exactly what I have to do on a daily basis as I have to be able to do lots of different things- all at the same time usually as well!”
Why do you love what you do?
“I love the opportunity that my role brings- I can do so many things on a daily basis and I absolutely love that about my job. I think that I’m part of something that I should be very proud of- as a company we’re leading edge in what we do. On a daily basis I think we make a big difference to people’s lives and I don’t think there’s many people that can say that about their job and that’s exactly why I love doing what I do.”
I love Boots because…
“We are the best at what we do, and we are doing it now and have been for a good few years and that makes me very proud.”
If you had to leave Boots tomorrow, what’s the one thing that you would miss the most?
“I think it’s contact with the customers, everyday you meet so many different people and you know you really are making a difference to them. The team- the team are absolutely fabulous. Watching somebody be developed and be better than they thought they could ever be is just amazing- I love that.”
