"I came to Boots through a school leavers' course in 1992 and I've stayed ever since"
Job title: Portfolio Manager
Qualifications when I joined Boots: Four GCSEs
My career so far: I came to Boots through a school leavers’ course in 1992 for scientists and I’ve stayed ever since. I’ve had lots of different jobs within the company and gradually moved upwards into my current role.
My typical day: There is no typical work day at Boots. There’s always lots of different projects going on and new challenges to tackle.
The best thing about Boots: The people I work with and the environment – it’s a fun, vibrant place to be.
How many advantage points have you got?
“How many advantage points have I got? I do shop a lot at boots.com so I’ve collected quite a lot of advantage points over the last few years. I think I’m over 5,000 at the moment although I do tend to use them quite often.”
What was your first ever job?
“My first ever job was within the Product Development department at Boots, I was 16 years old. I was a school leaver and joined Boots at the age of 16 and I started in the Healthcare department developing products for Boots Healthcare.”
What goes through your mind just before getting into work?
“What goes through my mind just before getting into work is what I’ve got on that day, normally my journey to work is around 40 minutes so I have plenty of time to think about what I’ve got on that day and what I’ve got planned for the next 7 or 8 hours ahead.”
What’s the nicest thing one of your colleagues has ever said to you?
“I suppose when colleagues leave it’s always a disappointment, but when colleagues do leave and say that they’ve really enjoyed working with me that’s a really nice thing to have said.”
