All of our graduates join as permanent employees. The programme is about learning by doing and experiencing great retailing first-hand. Yes you'll get an overview of the business as a whole, but you'll spend most of your time at the heart of our business - in teams on the shop floor.

At the end of 52 weeks - or sooner if you hit our tough performance targets - you'll be given your own store to manage and your own team to lead. For those who show exceptional leadership and business skill, there will be additional training and opportunities to progress even further.

There's a structured framework to guide you. You'll work in various formats, from a large flagship right through to a small community store, learning from mentors in the business. You'll see different sides of store management, with placements that develop your knowledge, skills and leadership abilities in four core areas: Customer, People, Business and Self.

This is matched with one-on-one coaching sessions, self-directed learning, targeted training, community projects, progress reviews and support learning from senior managers. You'll also be able to take part in challenge sessions with other graduates on the programme. There are workshops to help reinforce all this learning and assignments to cement your strategic thinking, creativity, solutions-focus and leadership skills.

Programme Details
There are five phases of structured retail experience, with training broken down into the following specific areas:

  • The detail of retail
  • Our professional business (pharmacy)
  • Managing the store
  • Taking the helm and being a retail leader

As you progress through the year, you'll assume more responsibility for coaching, managing and leading teams. This will culminate in the golden opportunity to manage your own store and show just how much you've learned.
