Supporting the community is something our teams can feel good about - from raising money for causes we care about to lending time to help.

We believe that we can play a valuable role in the nation's health, by forming innovative partnerships with charities and by making our expertise and support widely available - not just through our stores but wherever we can help to build healthier, happier communities.

Across the business, there are so many great examples of teams who are supporting the communities they work in: we've helped charity shops to improve their merchandising, sent our No 7 Consultants into hospitals to run beauty workshops, volunteered in schools to help children learn to read. And that's just a fraction of what our people get involved in.

Miles For Macmillan

Macmillan Cancer Support's ambition is to reach everyone affected by cancer who wants and needs their help - and Boots UK will play a significant role in helping to achieve this. We're working together to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.

By combining our healthcare expertise and presence across the UK, we believe we can help Macmillan Cancer Support to reach more people and provide cancer support and information to everyone who needs it.

Boots UK colleagues are already committed to the cause and have embarked on some inspiring fundraising activities, helping us raise around £2.5m in the first year of our partnership (2010-2011). The company-wide Miles For Macmillan event, has seen our people taking up the enormous challenge of clocking up 290,000 miles by foot, bike or rowing boat to raise money for Macmillan. That's one mile for every person diagnosed with cancer in the UK each year.

This year, we've invited our customers to join us too, in 40 organised walks across the country. It's a great way for us all to get fit, explore their towns and countryside, while raising money for people affected by cancer.
