-The business of learning more
You’ll be based at our busy office complex in Nottingham.
Naturally, we need the very best people to join us. People who are
ready to embark on a two-year programme that will give you a broad
overview of the function and develop you into a world-class
professional. During the course of the programme, you’ll have the
opportunity to gain hands-on experience in at least two real jobs
in the areas of Buying, Brand or Marketing. You’ll also get to do a
placement in one of our stores. With such a well-rounded view of
commercial life at Boots, you’re in a very good position to make
some key decisions about which area you want to specialise in.
More specifically, you’ll benefit from a full and varied
learning programme complete with workshops, events, projects and
full support from your line manager and mentor. You’ll also learn
how to balance technical know-how, self-awareness and interpersonal
skills, so that your understanding of retail will develop more than
you ever thought possible. The programme is structured as
follows:
Induction – a highly interactive and
self-managed induction experience, designed to give you a thorough
introduction to retail and the Boots brand.
Behavioural skills – this covers areas such as
developing self-awareness; nurturing the ability to influence and
work with other people from a variety of backgrounds; building and
managing relationships and continuing to raise your personal
effectiveness in a variety of settings and with a wide range of
people.
Technical skills – role specific training on
areas such as: brand and category management; financial
management and performance analysis; commercial systems and
processes; negotiation skills; merchandising; multi-channel
retailing; marketing 1-2-1; managing price and value.
Supporting activities – these link the
programme together and help you reflect on what you have learnt and
how you will apply it. Example activities include line manager
coaching, access to a mentor, charity projects and informal drop in
sessions with senior leaders.
It’s a tough, demanding journey, but if you’re successful you’ll
be equipped with the key skills, knowledge and experience to reach
managerial level with us in two to three years.
